Collectively recently covered the story of a guy who only eats food that he finds in dumpsters. It went down pretty well and left you all hungry for more, so we thought we’d stick with the theme and head back to the dumpster. This time, it’s about taking it to the next level and dining in a dumpster.
Welcome to the Salvage Supperclub. As you’ll see in the video above, from Seeker, Josh Treuhaft started the project to try and raise awareness of the huge amount of food being needlessly thrown away. The supperclub hosts dining events, set in dumpsters, where guests chow down on several courses – all made from ingredients that would otherwise have gone to waste.
As Treuhaft explains, the meals are made by knowledgeable chefs, but the aim isn’t to give people haute cuisine; it’s about letting people know that they too can make appetising meals from ingredients that they might normally consider unfit to use. Profits from the dinner parties then go to initiatives that are helping redistribute excess food to those in need.
So you can keep your high-end, overpriced restaurants, thanks. We’ll stick to the dumpster for now.
